A new hot food takeaway premises could soon be coming to Auchinleck, if plans are approved.

An application has been lodged with East Ayrshire Council to transform the former Freddie Williams bookmakers shop on Well Road.

The proposals, submitted by Bennett Developments and Consulting, would see a change of the interior f the building, to accommodate the takeaway set up.

The only external alteration would be the addition of a flue to remove any fumes from the new premises.

A planning statement attached to the application reads: "The property at 18 Well Road is one of two within a slightly odd stand-alone, flat-roofed, single-storey brick and render construction.

"It is in a poor state of repair and is vacant, having previously been occupied by a bookmakers."

If plans are approved in their current form, the takeaway will operate from Sunday- Thursday 10am-11pm and Friday and Saturday 10am-midnight.

The statement adds: "In assessing an application, the local authority are required to assess it in the context of the latest approved and adopted Local Development plan and other relevant legislation such as national planning guidelines.

"The proposed development will be located within a unit which previously housed a bookmakers.

"It does not involve any new build, so the venue and location is one which is known to the local community.

"The refurbishment of the unit and the fact that it will provide a local service means that residents need not travel to avail themselves of the  new service provided."

A decision on the plans is expected to be made by the end of April.
