TEMPORARY cover is being provided at a school near Cumnock to fill a gap left by the absence of the head teacher, council bosses have confirmed.

Parents of children at Logan Primary contacted the Chronicle to raise their concerns around the apparent absence of the school's head teacher since Christmas.

The current head teacher at Logan Primary School is Denise MacColl, according to the East Ayrshire Council (EAC) website.

EAC has now confirmed to the Chronicle that both the head and depute head at Logan are currently absent.

Parents and guardians of Logan's pupils were informed earlier this week that Gary Hastings, depute head teacher at New Cumnock Primary, would be "placed within the school to support staff, pupils and families for the next two weeks".

The notice also added that parents or guardians should "contact the school office if you have any further enquiries".

However, some parents of pupils at the school said they had contacted the school about the situation and hadn't been given a straightforward answer.

East Ayrshire Council has since said the current arrangement is "subject to review".

A local authority spokesperson added: "East Ayrshire Council can confirm that Mr Hastings has been asked to provide leadership at Logan Primary school in the absence of both the head and depute head teacher.

"The current arrangement is subject to review and is intended to ensure stability during this period.

"The council has a responsibility to protect a person’s right to privacy and therefore will be making no further comment at this time."
