An East Ayrshire man's life has been transformed after facing challenges with mental health issues.

According to a report from the East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, the British Red Cross played a pivotal role in supporting the man, referred to as 'Mr C' in the report, following his discharge from Crosshouse Hospital.

Mr C had been struggling with poor mental health and had spent time in the Woodland View psychiatric hospital in recent years.

The British Red Cross, a key delivery partner of the Home from Hospital service, also supported by the East Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership, provide essential help to people after their hospital discharge.

Stephen Johnson, the British Red Cross, shared the steps his team took to assist Mr C after he left hospital.

He said: "Mr C lives alone and gets very lonely and isolated.

"At times he feels he has no purpose in life, which is affecting his mood and wellbeing."

Mr C also shared with Stephen his fond memories of attending an art group, which he enjoyed.

To facilitate his return to this group and to help rebuild his confidence in socialising, Stephen informed him about the BRS volunteer outreach support service.

This service offers home visits, transportation to and from the art group, and support during the sessions.

Mr C said the help he has received has changed his life.

"I would not be where I am now without the support of the British Red Cross," he added.

"[They were] so friendly and gave me faith in believing that someone would genuinely help me.

"This helped me trust them more and open up to them."
