A Sanquhar care home has been ordered to improve after being handed a 'weak' rating by inspectors.

Queensberry Care Home was given a 'weak' rating, along with three 'adequate' ratings and only  one 'good' rating after inspectors visited in September.

A report by the Care Inspectorate also pointed out that the facility had failed to address 'areas for improvement' set out after a previous visit last year.

Inspectors consulted with six people supported by the service and three visiting relatives, as well as with 16 members of staff.

Staffing teams were handed the highest grading in the report, while the setting was branded the weakest area of the home.

Hot water issues were ponted out in some areas of the home, with the report saying that a risk was posed because  "the hot water system was erratic and water above the safe temperature of 43 degrees was found in several areas".

It added: "In another area there was insufficient hot water in bathrooms and bedrooms resulting in staff having to obtain water in a basin from the dirty utility area.

"We continue to see issues with doors left unlocked to cupboards or rooms unsafe for service users to access.

"There was insufficient attention to ensure fire doors could operate safely and exit routes were unobstructed."

The report said people consulted by the inspectors had spoken highly of the staff team, with one person saying employees at the home "are great and very friendly".

One family member told the inspection team: "The lassies are all great, can't fault them. They know me so well, they've been like family."

But the inspectors said an 'area for improvement' set out in 2022, to carry out work to better ensure service users' safety, had not been met.

A second area for improvement, for people to enjoy areas of the home better, was also missed, the report found.

An area for improvement previously set out that said work should be done to ensure service users' safety had not been met, according to inspectors.

Queensberry Care Home have been asked for comment on the report.
