A new respite facility on the outskirts of New Cumnock has been awarded a generous donation that could help up to 60 families.

Expert insurance provider, Ansvar, has donated £15,000 to Honeypot Children's Charity, as the main winner of its Community Campaign.

Honeypot Children’s Charity opened the new home for young carers in Scotland last month.

The facility is dedicated to providing respite breaks and ongoing outreach support to young carers who selflessly look after their parents or siblings.

With a history spanning 27 years, Honeypot Children's Charity has been a pillar of support for young carers at its fun-filled respite houses located in Cumnock, Newtown in Powys and the New Forest in Hampshire.

Each year, the charity supports around 1,000 children, ensuring that each child receives a yearly residential break.

The £15,000 donation from Ansvar will play a vital role in furthering Honeypot’s impactful initiatives.

It will fund 20 children to experience three days and two nights of joyous residential breaks, where they can participate in a wide array of activities and simply relish being children.

Additionally, the donation will provide 20 wellbeing grants for families, enabling them to purchase essential equipment that will make a young carer's life easier at home.

These grants aim to alleviate some of the burdens faced by young carers by providing practical assistance and support.

The donation will also fund 20 places on Honeypot's highly beneficial online activity workshop.

This workshop allows young carers to access Honeypot's support whenever they need it, ensuring they receive the care and guidance necessary to navigate the challenges they face.

A delighted Carol Anne McMahon, community fundraiser for Honeypot Children's Charity in Scotland, said: "Thank you so much to everyone from Ansvar insurance for the donation.

"It makes me emotional to think of the impact it will have on the lives of many young carers.

"Dinners all together at the table on respite breaks or trips to the seaside are things many young carers will experience for the first time but will become happy memories forever.”
