A site visit is needed at the location of plans for a new nursery in Mauchline, according to East Ayrshire Council.

Plans were lodged to build a new 'nature' nursery in the town.

The application, submitted on behalf of Helix Homes Ltd, would see the new complex built in the woodland area north of the Loudoun Street car park.

Initial plans were submitted at the end of last year, with revised drawings coming to the council at the start of this year.

Some 60 kids would be taught in the new facility, with space included for parking as well.

Councillors had recommended that the plans be approved, subject to some conditions.

The issue was due to be decided at East Ayrshire Council's planning committee on Friday, June 23.

However, the committee decided that a site visit was needed before a decision was made either way.

This visit is to planned as soon as possible, with a special committee to be called afterwards.

David Mitchell, chief governance officer, East Ayrshire Council said: "The meeting was held on Friday as planned.

"During discussions it was determined that a site visit was necessary.

"This will now be arranged and a special committee will be convened in early course."

A number of comments, both in support and against the plans had been submitted by members of the public.

Sarah Boyd commented: "This would be an amazing addition to our village and allow for generations to come to play, learn and grow in a unique, natural setting."

Ashlyn Mason added a comment that was felt by many in Mauchline.

"So many housing projects in Mauchline at the moment resulting in an expanding population. We need more nursery and school places to accommodate for this too."
