Cumnock Juniors boss Stephen Swift has hailed his players for bouncing back after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Glenafton at Townhead Park.

Dylan Dykes, Tam Orr and Allan McKenzie were all on the scoresheet as they recovered from two losses against Largs and Auchlineck to record their second win of the season.

Swift says it was important that his side recovered from those disappointing results, and praised them for doing so in dominant fashion.

He said: "We had a couple of disappointments against Largs and Auchinleck, and it was important we got the three points at the weekend so that was pleasing.

"We wanted a performance and the boys dominated the full half, and were worthy of the lead at the break.

"We scored our second with two minutes to go before half time which was pleasing, as it would have been a travesty to only come in one goal up.

"There are things you can be hyper critical of, we should have had more goals and won the game more comfortably, but you can't ask for more than three points and a clean sheet.

Cumnock head to Troon on Wednesday for a tough game in South Ayrshire, before a week's break until a home clash with Gartcairn.

Swift added: "First and foremost, it will be a difficult venue at Troon, and there are no easy games so we need to be up for it.

"The week off gives us time for players to recover, get a good week's training and prepare for Gartcairn.

"They have signed a lot of big players, and everybody in the league has a good squad, so every match is a challenge."

Swift has now challenged his side to kick on and string some results together, following a "mixed bag" start to the season.

He added: "Our pre-season went really smoothly, so we are worrying about when adversity is going to hit.

"We've only really had one bad performance, which was against Largs, and we deserved more against Auchinleck.

"Hopefully we can eradicate a few things and go on a wee run that can keep us climbing the table."
