Glenafton Athletic will take on Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle FC in a glamour pre-season friendly.

The Glasgow side will bring their first team to Loch Park on Saturday, July 6, with the match starting at 3pm.

The friendly was arranged as part of Luke McBeth’s transfer in January, with Thistle manager and former Auchinleck player Kris Doolan bringing down the opposition.

A club spokesperson said: "The fixture will be Thistle’s only open pre-season friendly, and we also look forward to welcoming a large Jags support to Loch Park.

"It will also be the Glens first home pre-season friendly, following our summer maintenance program by Pro Turfcare.

"Although this will be the first ever match (we believe) between the two clubs there are numerous connections including over 30 players representing both sides.

"Firhill Stadium holds a special place in the hearts of Glenafton supporters, for it was there in 1993 that they won the Scottish Junior Cup for the first time, managed by Thistle legend Alan Rough and captained by Alex Kennedy, another former Jag.

"In Season 2005/06 Gerry Collins, former Thistle player and manager, guided the Glens to a Cup double with a side captained by Willie Howie, who had followed his former boss from Firhill.

"More recently, both Partick Thistle and Glenafton Athletic were saddened to learn that Gerry had passed away after battling a long illness. Before kick-off a minute’s applause will be held in his memory."

Admission prices will be £7 for adults and £5 for concessions.
