Glenafton Athletic manager Mick McCann says his new squad is gelling together nicely as they won their second preseason friendly in a row, with a 2-0 win over Girvan FC.

The Glens kicked off their pre season a fortnight ago with a 3-1 home win over fellow West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) side Kello Rovers.

They faced up against another WoSFL side, Girvan, at the weekend, with goals from Scott Sherrie and Jordan Ryan securing another win at Loch Park.

Speaking to the Chronicle, McCann said: “It was only our second game in preseason and we could see improvements already even from last week. The fitness is getting better and we are getting used to each as we are a fairly new team.

“There are a lot of new signings but there is a certain character that we looked for in the players we brought in, so it is no surprise that is has come together quite

quickly.

“I was pleased with the shut out as well from a defensive point of view, so all in all it was a good day.”

New signing from Lugar Boswell Sherrie was amongst the goals at the weekend and he joins the long list of recent additions to the Glens squad.

The most recent after the former Lugar man is Sam McKee arriving from Ayr United.

McCann said he has had his eye on the forward after he impressed in the WoSFL last season with Irvine Victoria.

He said :“McKee has been on my radar for a while.I played against him when he was at Vic’s and I was still playing with St Cadoc’s.

“I noticed him then, he is a sharp striker who can play off both feet and he looks like a natural goal scorer to me but time will tell obviously.

“Sherrie is a talented player, he is a little bit different to everyone else because he has that little bit of class about him technically.

“He can take a man on and can find a pass as well.I have been really impressed with him so far, his attitude is spot on. “

“They are both still young , eager to learn and I am sure they will do great in the environment we are trying to create at the club.”
