NOTTINGHAM FOREST have sealed the signing of Aberdeen's Scott McKenna.

The Scotland internationalist missed his side's 3-0 defeat to Motherwell at the weekend as the deal was being finalised, with the Dons' 2-0 win over Viking in the Europa League qualifiers his 118th and final appearance for Derek McInnes' side.

The precise fee for the central defender is not known but a statement on the Aberdeen website revealed that the money received is a new record for the Pittodrie club.

Speaking to afc.co.uk, McInnes outlined his belief that McKenna will be a huge success at the City Ground in England's second tier.

β€œScott is clearly a player who has approached his career to date in the correct manner and quite rightly, he has now got his reward,” he said.

β€œWe have had the benefit of this in our first team and whilst from a football perspective it is sore to lose a player of his quality, we felt this was the right time for Scott to move on.

β€œHe has had a real football education at our club and he always approaches his work in a correct and professional manner. Scott is exactly the type of player and person we strive to develop at Aberdeen and is the ideal role model for other young players.

β€œLike any of the players that leave we always keep an eye on their progress with a sense of pride and I’ve not doubt he will go on to have a great career.”
