NEW Glenafton Athletic defender Craig Pettigrew is hoping his team can end the dominance of treble-winning former club Auchinleck Talbot after making a move to Loch Park.

The former Ayr United ace has left Kilwinning Rangers to come on board with boss Craig McEwan, who describes him as a winner.

Pettigrew, joined by former Buffs team-mate Ryan Nisbet at Glens, is positively relishing the new challenge and said: “I enjoyed my time at Kilwinning Rangers and had a good couple of seasons there, winning a trophy.

“But I felt it was time to move on.

“There’s a very strong squad there and I’m excited about the new season.

“Talbot have done very well in the past couple of seasons but someone has to start challenging them and hopefully we can be the team who can achieve that.

“I won the Scottish Cup three times with Talbot and want to win more honours.

“I like what Craig McEwan had to say and am looking forward to the new season.”

Added McEwan: “It’s great to have Craig on board.

“Craig is a winner and it will be good to have someone like him in the dressing room. He is a winner who had played at the top level and there were no hard feelings with Kilwinning Rangers.”

Meanwhile Talbot have signed striker Bryan Boylan, also from Buffs.

Boss Tommy Sloan said: “Bryan is a goal threat and he has pace as well

“We are not short of good strikers but Bryan is a player who has an eye for goal as well as aerial strength too.

“Hopefully he will come and do well for us.”

Meanwhile striker Sean McIlroy could be moving on.

Sloan said: “Sean is out of contract and has offers from some other clubs.

“We would have loved to have kept him,.

“It would be a blow if we were to lose him as he’s been an important player .”
