UNSTOPPABLE Auchinleck Talbot celebrated a trophy double amid euphoric scenes at Portland Park last Wednesday.

The Sectional Cup winners lifted the McBookie Premiership title for the first time in three years with a 5-0 demolition of Troon. Now there’s a chance of a glorious treble as they face Largs Thistle in the Macron Scottish Junior Cup final at Hamilton on June 2.

Jubilant boss Tommy Sloan said: “The biggest thing is we have qualified for the senior Scottish Cup. Last year we lost the league on the last day and we have reacted well to that. We had a great run in it this year and to that again would be great but we know that won’t happen every year. There’s no doubt we have been the best team this season and we have ground out a lot of performances.

Double hero Gordon Pope said: “It’s a massive achievement to win the league when you consider Hurlford won their first 12 games. the league was much bigger, there were more games to catch up and it was great to win it with four games to spare. We believed we could do it, Tucker pushes us every week.”

Fellow scorer Dwayne Hyslop, who has secured his fifth league winner’s medal added: “This feels great, it has been a hard season with a 30-game league. Our heads were on our game and Rob Roy did us a favour by beating Hurlford and that helped us win the league. Now we can get our heads on the cup final. It’s hard to regain the league and it’s great to do that. I was pleased with my goal and connected well with the ball. I think we were about 15 points behind at one point. The boys did a great job and that has to be one of our best performances. This will give us confidence before the final.”

Talbot will be presented with the league trophy after their final home game against Pollok tonight (Wednesday). They play Beith on Saturday.
