Macron Scottish Junior Cup Semi-Final
AUCHINLECK TALBOT 2
LOCHEE UNITED 0 (Talbot win 6-1 on aggregate)
IN the new reboot of Dumbo, the main character is a flying elephant who seizes the limelight in the circus by hitting heights no one thought possible, writes Stewart McConnell. On Saturday, awesome Auchinleck Talbot soared back into Junior football’s big top by reaching the showpiece final for a 15th time. And for the second successive Saturday, brothers Graham and Stephen Wilson both netted.
Jamie Glasgow had his 10-yard shot blocked by a defender in seven minutes. Lochee carved out an opening in 13 minutes when Cameron shot narrowly wide from 16 yards.
Graham Wilson shot wildly over the bar from 25 yards. However a minute later, brother Stephen sent home a cheeky lob from 12 yards. In 18 minutes, Dwayne Hyslop sent a defence-splitting pass to Graham Wilson to drill the ball home from six yards.
Talbot striker Keir Samson was harshly booked for a dive in 36 minutes. Lochee carved out their best opening seven minutes later when Andy Leishman denied Grant Lawson. Talbot went close in 55 minutes when Graham Wilson sent a 25-yard free-kick just over the bar. Talbot came close in 88 minutes when a Gordon Pope rocket was brilliantly saved by Jordan Millar.
AUCHINLECK TALBOT: Leishman; Lyle, Pope, McPherson, McCracken, S Wilson, Hyslop (Armstrong 65) White, G Wilson (McIlroy 57) Samson (Kemp 65) Glasgow. Subs not used: Shankland, McDowall.
