AUCHINLECK bowler Claire Johnston has won bronze in the women's pairs at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Johnston and partner Lesley Doig beat Canadian pair Leanne Chinery and Kelly McKerihen 18-10 in the early hours of this morning to claim the bronze medal.

Yesterday, Johnston and Doig missed out on the chance to make the final as they lost by the same scoreline to South Africa.

It means team Scotland have now won five bowls medals including a gold and silver for Johnston's fellow Ayrshire bowler Paul Foster.

In other Gold Coast action, Mauchline badminton star Adam Hall and his men's doubles partner Alex Dunn reached the quarter-finals.

They cruised through their round of 16 match with Barbadians Dakeil Thorpe and Cory Fanus, winning 21-7 21-9 in just 20 minutes.

However, they faced a tough task against Malaysian top seeds Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong. They put up a good fight but lost out 21-9 21-17.

After the match, Hall posted on Twitter: "Not the finish we wanted today but what an experience this has been!

"I've really enjoyed my first Commonwealth Games with some great performances from the whole team throughout!

"Looking forward to being back home and preparing for Europeans next week."
