Margaret Weir, Mitchell Harrison, and Jay Wilson, who represent the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) class which meets in the town, were awarded with their upgrades by the head of the organisation.

In Belfast, grandmaster Peter Harkness promoted Margaret, who is an ITF instructor, to fourth Dan black belt which is a tremendous achievement for the Scottish internationalist.

It is the latest in a long line of awards for the 24-year-old who has earned 20 medals since she took up the sport around 15 years ago, including two bronze in Belarus last summer at the European Championships.

Also presented with their new grades at a separate event in Edinburgh were Mitchell Harrison, promoted to first Dan black belt, and Jay Wilson, who is now a third Dan black belt.

Jay, 17, who represents junior Scotland, is a protegee of Margaret and has already won gold medals while 11-year-old Mitchell is way ahead of others in his age group at that level.

Classes are held every Tuesday, between 6pm and 7pm, in the BB Hall, Auchinleck Road, Millbank, and on a Friday, from 5pm to 6pm, in Old Cumnock Church hall, Barrhill Road — visit www.uktc.com for more details.
