A SCHOOLGIRL has died after being knocked down by a car in Motherwell.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to The Loaning area of the town late on Tuesday afternoon. She was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman has now confirmed that the girl died after being taken to the hospital.
She said: “At around 4.15pm on Tuesday, police were called to a report of a 12-year-old girl having been struck by a car at The Loaning, Motherwell.

“Emergency services attended and the girl was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where she later died.

“A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with alleged road traffic offences.
“He is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday, February 14.”
