A FUN football match was held in Muirkirk recently to support efforts towards the village's gala day.

Muirkirk Gala Day will take place on Saturday, August 8 from 12-4pm.

And the community recently came together for a 'Gents v Teens' match, which helped raise cash towards the event.

Support for the match came from Muirkirk Fire Station and committee members from both Muirkirk Gala and Muirkirk Juniors.

The match ended in a 6-4 win for the gents.

A Muirkirk Gala Day committee member said after the event: "A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Muirkirk Gala Day fundraiser ‘Gents vs Teens’ match.

"It was fantastic to see so many people there cheering on both teams and helping make the day such a success.

"A massive thank you to all the players who took part and gave it their all.

"The teens were certainly a lot stronger and fitter this year and were very unlucky not to come away with the win – they put in a brilliant performance and made the gents work hard right until the final whistle."

They added: "Special thanks also go to all the committee members from both Muirkirk Gala and Muirkirk Juniors for all their hard work behind the scenes.

"Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the time and effort you all put in.

"Thanks again to everyone who supported the fundraiser – you have raised £400 towards this year’s gala day. The support means so much and helps make the gala day possible."
