YOUNG performers stepped into the spotlight at a recent summer concert.
The junior and senior summer concerts, organised by East Ayrshire Council’s Music Service, took place at Dean Castle Country Park and celebrated the musical talent of young people from across the area.
The senior concert began with a performance from the East Ayrshire Pipes and Drums, including renditions of Scotland the Brave, Bonnie Galloway, and When the Battle’s Over.
The East Ayrshire Percussion Ensemble followed with three pieces, including Day Tripper and This is the Life, featuring soloist Lucy Pratt from Kilmarnock Academy.
Before the interval, the East Ayrshire Jazz Band played pieces by Miles Davis, Otis Reading, and Duke Ellington.
The second half featured the East Ayrshire String Orchestra and Concert Band, who performed music from Pirates of the Caribbean and The Greatest Showman.
The junior concert included performances by the East Ayrshire Primary String Orchestra and Primary Concert Band.
Two energetic renditions of Scottish Opera’s The Tale o’ Tam O’Shanter were delivered by pupils from Nether Robertland Primary and Annanhill Primary.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, spokesperson for education, and children and young people, said: "The summer concerts provided an opportunity for children and young people from across East Ayrshire to shine and they did not disappoint.
"It was a wonderful showcase for our children and young people who displayed talent, commitment and passion for music."
