New Cumnock Primary School marks Mental Health Scotland Week

NEW Cumnock Primary School celebrated a successful Mental Health Week Scotland.

The school arranged for specialists to visit and deliver sessions aimed at promoting well-being among the students.

These included dance sessions by Pauline Auld of PA Dance Academy, yoga and meditation by Sharon McQuillan from ShapeShift Fitness Studio, and a petting zoo brought by Bunnylove's Gina Scott.

James McDonald, East Ayrshire’s countryside development officer, also contributed with activities in the Wildlife Garden, along with lessons in land art and river dipping.

Students participated in a range of activities like food preparation, nature walks to Knockshinnoch Lagoons, art sessions, class games, and kindness tasks.

A movie session and a playground picnic rounded off their schedule.

The students engaged wholeheartedly, demonstrating a notable understanding of the activities aimed at supporting mental health.

They not only took in the experiences but also applied the self-help strategies they learned.

They managed to reflect on their own mental well-being, as well as their peers, sharing insights and supporting each other throughout the week.

The school expressed its pride in how the students handled the mental health-themed week and its eagerness to see them continue to flourish.

Acknowledgment was given to the parent helpers, visiting specialists, and school staff who worked hard to provide a variety of enriching experiences for the children.

The focus was to ensure children engaged in a holistic learning journey, promoting growth in different aspects of their lives.

The school has committed to continue fostering such initiatives in the future.
