THERE was a boost for Logan Primary School recently as the facility opened a new sports pitch.
Thanks to fundraising efforts and a push by the community, the new field adjacent to the school will be used for the benefit of pupils in Logan.
The pitch has been named after the men who made it happen, Tony and Bert Esquierdo and Keith Campbell.
In their honour, the pitch has been named Esquierdo Campbell Park or the EC Park for short.
It was christened with a fun football tournament with the school houses competing against each other, with Bello coming out on top.
Delighted with the opening, head teacher Mrs Robson said: "What a wonderful afternoon we had, despite the last minute rain.
"We had Mr McVake and Mr Murray from the Logan Burns Club attend with £800 that their group raised for our Aplastic Anaemia Trust fundraising efforts.
"We are very humbled by their support and over the moon that Kell is back in school and able to accept their donation on behalf of AAT.
"Our pitch was officially opened by the gentlemen who made it happen- Tony and Bert Esquierdo and Keith Campbell."
There was further cause for celebration, as pupil Jacob was awarded a prize for his litter picking efforts by Tony, Bert and Keith, which has led to a 'litter picker of the month' award being set up in the school.
Mrs Robson added: "Thank you to everyone for coming out and supporting us today and generously donating. We don't know how much we collected yet.
"More thanks go to Holly Dale and Asda for the bubble wands that added to the atmosphere; Farmfoods and Bert for their donations of water and cakes; Zakory's Papa and Cousin Archie for collecting and transporting the goals; Ross Ballantyne for getting the pitch ready and lined and refereeing; Grant for putting in the posts for our sign; Miss Donnelly for organising the tournament and all our children and staff for efforts in making it a fantastic afternoon."
