LABOUR MP Lillian Jones is calling on residents in her ward to bid for support to create more Armed Forces Day events this year.

The UK Government recently announced £500,000 in funding for community groups to help promote Armed Forces Day events.

Events could include the likes of a community picnic or barbecue, musical performances, parades, stands run by local military units and veterans’ charities, hands-on experiences and talks by inspiring service personnel.

Applications close on March 30, 2026 and more information can be found online.

Kilmarnock and Loudoun MP Ms Jones said: “I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for our Armed Forces personnel and veterans, and that’s why I’m delighted that the UK Labour Government has today announced £500,000 in funding for community groups to help promote Armed Forces Day events this summer.

“I’d strongly encourage community organisations to submit their bids as soon as possible - and I’d be very happy to support them.

“Kilmarnock and Loudoun proudly backs our armed forces community.

"I’m delighted this Labour government are funding these vital community events and I will proudly back a bid so our whole community can come together.”
