A 40-year-old man who kissed and licked a teenage girl's face on a bus while she asked to be left alone may be admitted to a mental health hospital.
William McMahon, from Drongan, was previously added to the sex offenders register for sexually assaulting the complainer aboard the vehicle from Burns Statue Square in Ayr to his home village.
McMahon, of Bonnyton Avenue, pleaded guilty to placing his arms around the teen, pulling her towards him, touching her and playing with her hair at various points during the journey on September 22, 2024.
He then touched her on the body, kissed her on the face, touched her face with his tongue, followed her and again assaulted her - while refusing to stop when requested.
Not guilty pleas to three further charges were accepted by prosecutors.
When he returned to court this week, defence solicitor Glen Davis said his client may be admitted to a stay in the Woodland View hospital in Irvine.
He added that he intended to keep the appointment and any stay would be for around six weeks.
Sheriff Maria Kicinski deferred sentencing until later next month, with bail continued.
A procurator fiscal depute told an earlier hearing: "At 6.10pm on the date libelled the complainer boarded the 42 bus travelling from Ayr town centre to Drongan.
"The bus was busy and she sat down. At this time the accused recognised her and attempted to get her attention, then got up and moved to sit beside her.
"He used his right arm to pull her towards him. He appeared under the influence loudly slurring his words. He began playing with her hair and she asked him to stop.
"He stroked her shoulder and attempted to move his hand to the front of her body."
The fiscal depute added: "She told him to stop doing this. At this point he again put his arm around her, kissed her, touched her face and left cheek with his tongue.
"She was extremely uncomfortable. She pushed him away and told him to stop it.
"She continued telling him to stop and he began kissing her on the cheek again using his tongue. She pushed him away then went to another seat.
"A few stops later the accused got off the bus."
The girl was said to have spoken to her mother and she observed her to be "visibly distressed".
Police were contacted and officers seized footage capturing the incident. McMahon was traced five days later.
He made no reply to being cautioned and charged.
Sheriff Kicinski previously said: "In light of the nature of the offence you pleaded guilty to you will be subject to the [sex offender] notification requirements."
Bail was continued for McMahan under conditions not to approach or contact the complainer.
