A LOCAL hero from Cumnock attended a celebration of the Scottish Parliament's 25th anniversary recently.
Natalie Carmichael was selected as the worthy candidate following a search by Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley MSP, Elena Whitham.
As part of a celebration to mark the parliament's 25th anniversary, Natalie attended the event which celebrated Scotland's local heroes.
Unfortunately, Ms Whitham was unable to attend the celebrations due to two ruptured discs, but Natalie and husband Alex went along and were warmly welcomed by First Minister John Swinney.
Natalie is the driving force behind the Nest Wellbeing Group based in Cumnock.
The group provides a safe and welcoming space for people of all backgrounds and is based on the premise that everyone is recovering from something.
Those who nominated Natalie also mentioned her extensive volunteering work, as she has served as an NHS volunteer and was particularly supportive to people in the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Elena Whitham described Natalie as someone who "radiates positivity and compassion".
She added: "Natalie operates Nest on the philosophy that everyone is recovering from something and that all are made to feel welcome and accepted for who they are.
"Everyone who nominated Natalie spoke of her support and kindness. It’s clear that our community would not be the same without her."
