Hundreds of dedicated fun runners braved the elements to take part in a colour dash recently.

East Ayrshire Council's Children and Young People’s Cabinet held the successful event at Howard Park, Kilmarnock, where runners from across the area had a great time being doused with coloured powders as they completed the course.

David McGilp, from Auchinleck, who represents the Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley area at the Scottish Youth Parliament, was among those who helped to organise the event and ensured plenty of fun was had.

The event was opened by Provost Jim Todd, who was joined by Councillor Elaine Cowan, chief executive Eddie Fraser, and chief education officer and head of education Linda McAulay-Griffiths.

Over the years, the free event has become a favourite for many people in East Ayrshire and beyond.

Despite the unconvincing weather, the event also included a barbecue, thanks to the council's Catering Services.

Provost Todd said: “There was a fantastic turnout despite the weather and everyone had great fun. The members of the Children and Young People’s Cabinet put a lot of work into organising the event and they should all be extremely proud of their efforts.

"It really was a great event and certainly brought quite a bit of colour, and laughter, to a grey Kilmarnock day."
