THE group behind a community garden project in Auchinleck says vandals have targeted the site in a series of break-ins.

Knowe Garden Centre, managed by the Auchinleck Community Development Initiative (ACDI) is located on Quarry Knowe and aims to help with regeneration in the community.

The popular community area has evolved into a commercial gardening operation after being developed from a derelict site.

But ACDI says the project has suffered a number of break-ins.

They are putting extra security measures in place to guard against any future incidents.

A spokesperson said: "We regret to inform you that The Knowe Garden Centre has recently been the target of several break-ins.

"This unfortunate series of events has not only affected the centre but also the sense of security within our community.

"The local police have been contacted, and we are cooperating fully to ensure that this matter is dealt with.

"We are taking additional security measures to protect our premises and prevent any future incidents."

They added: "The Knowe Garden Centre is a community hub that has contributed to our local regeneration and provided job opportunities for many.

"It’s disheartening to see such a positive force in our community face these challenges.

"We would encourage you to report any suspicious activity to the police.

"Thank you for your ongoing support."
