This weekend it's time for a trip back in time to look at what made the Chronicle's headlines in March 2004.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling and Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus didn’t prove much of a match for MSP Cathy Jamieson. The Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley Labour MSP fended off stiff competition from her rivals to be named as NCH Scotland’s Woman of Influence in March 2004.

Margaret Torrance received her Drongan Citizen of the Year trophy from Margaret Drain BEM in Match 2004. Mrs Torrance has been a Drongan Community Association member for some 18 years and had worked tirelessly. She had also been a member of Drongan, Rankinston and Stair Community Council.

Pupils at Bellsbank Primary donned their dancing shoes for a sponsored line dance in March 2004. The children raised an amazing £650 to help a Romanian Orphanage.

Pupils in Sorn were paid a visit by the ‘Up 2 U’ bus in March 2004. It provided information and advice and some computer game fun too. Pictured are PC William McCallum, community councillors and some of the young folk who attended.

Lynsey Henry, community link officer for Cumnock Learning Partnership, picked up some useful information at the Credit Union Stall from development worker Charles Sim as International Women’s Day was celebrated at Yipworld in March 2004.

Auchinleck Academy’s badminton side were victorious in the Scottish Schools Championships in 2004. The victorious squad are pictured here with the trophy along with Gary Bryden of the PE Department.
