Nearly two years after its original unveiling, Cumnock's commemorative Queen’s Platinum Jubilee sculpture could be about to find its forever home.

Commissioned by Cumnock Community Council (CCC), the sculpture was the work of local craftsman Greig Faddes of Faddes Welding and Fabrications Limited.

Created to mark the Platinum Jubilee in 2022, it was unveiled at Cumnock Town Hall on Saturday, May 28.

Cumnock Chronicle:

Local councillors Neill Watts and Jim McMahon were at the unveiling on behalf of East Ayrshire Council.

Also in attendance was Jacqui Todd, who had helped with the funding process earlier in the year.

At that point no final location for the sculpture had been decided, with CCC hoping it could be placed in the grounds of East Ayrshire Community Hospital in the town.

Cumnock Chronicle:

However, in a new update, Hugh Murdoch from CCC said the sculpture's final home had been decided.

He said: "It's going to be placed in the grassy area near to the school car park on Ayr Road.

"It's taken a wee while to get to this point already, but we're still not entirely sure when we'll be able to get the sculpture sorted in there for good.

"We're going to create a nice wee garden area around it as well, so it makes it a  lovely wee feature.

"We were hoping to have it placed in the grounds of the hospital, but at least it'll be in a place where people see it.

"We wanted to have it in place for this year's carnival as well, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens."

Cumnock Chronicle:

According to an East Ayrshire Council grants committee report, £811 has been awarded to CCC "towards installation of a monument to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II at a site owned by East Ayrshire Council on Ayr Road, Cumnock; and Community Council Public Liability Insurance for the coming year".
