A CUMNOCK carer has had a warning placed on his registration following an X-rated outburst in front of colleagues.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) heard that Jimi Gillies shouted at colleagues, swore in their presence and caused a colleague to feel intimidated.

An SSSC panel found that Gillies, who is registered as a residential childcare worker, "failed to cooperate with the SSSC" throughout the investigation, and said he had "demonstrated no insight, regret or apology".

The panel decided there was evidence that "on or around 9 January 2023 [Mr Gillies did] shout at your colleagues".

A report on the panel's decision and the reasons behind it says there was evidence that Gillies said to colleagues, in reference to service users, words to the effect of “They boys won’t make it to adult services”, “that things would be taken off a young person because he is p***ing everywhere”, “I can’t understand a young person after 3 years of working with them”, and “I’m going up here for a hell of a f***ing shift, I’m not challenging young people”.

The reports adds: "On or around January 18, 2023 you did behave in an aggressive manner towards colleague XX, in that you did shout “'I’m f***ing sick of this shit' or words to that effect", and states that colleague XX felt intimidated as a result

The watchdog said that despite these incidents taking place in a residential care home, they did not occur in the presence of any service users.

They added: "In light of the above, your fitness to practise is impaired due to your misconduct."

The identity of Gillies' employer is not mentioned in the regulator's report.

Explaining the panel's decision, the report continued: "Social service workers must communicate in an appropriate, open, accurate and straight forward manner.

"They must not abuse, neglect or harm people who use the services, carers or colleagues.

"On two separate occasions you displayed a behaviour which was unacceptable and used threatening and abusive language to colleague about service users.

"You have not shown any insight and have failed to communicate with the SSSC throughout this investigation.

"The behaviour shown was intentional and indicates clear attitudinal and value concerns. There was no physical harm, but there was clear emotional harm caused to XX."

The SSSC decided that the appropriate sanction would be a 12-month warning placed on Gillies' registration, effective from February 29.
