Cumnock Chronicle: Fire

Young people from Cumnock Academy and yipworld.com were honoured with medals from Royalty. HRH Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, was in Kilmarnock in March 2004 to present local youngsters with their Duke of Edinburgh medals. He is pictured talking to Auchinleck fire trainer Michelle Terry in the white helmet.

Cumnock Chronicle: Sharlene

Cumnock doctor Sharlene Butler was preparing to run the London Marathon in 2004. Sharlene, 24, who worked at Ayr Hospital, hoped to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation as a fitting tribute for her brother Nathan, who died from congenital heart disease aged just 15. She is pictured with her occasional running companion Taz.

Cumnock Chronicle: Cairnhill

The pupils in P7 at Cairnhill Primary provided an afternoon of good old Scottish entertainment in March 2004 – with everything from poems to comedy sketches. This pair took to the stage as Jack and Victor from Still Game.

Greenmill Primary also held a Scottish event, with a ceilidh and fantastic entertainment, including these P1 pupils performing ‘The Bus Queue’.

The Chronicle’s photographer paid a visit to Mauchline  Nursery in March 2004 to see the youngsters at play – including this trio on a see-saw.

Cumnock Chronicle: Catrine Primary pupils said farewell to their adopted police dog in 2004

Pupils at Catrine Primary School waved a tearful goodbye to their adopted police dog ‘Libby’ in early 2004. The school adopted the former explosive search dog five years earlier. As Libby’s handler Norman McColgan retired, the brave canine was also looking forward to the quiet life.
