A man has appeared in court in connection with reports of a high-speed vehicle chase between Mauchline and Auchinleck.

Jack Ferguson appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court on Friday, February 23 following reports of an incident on the A76 and in Auchinleck itself the previous day.

The 25-year-old, described as a resident of Ayrshire, was charged with 11 separate offences under the Road Traffic Act 1988, including two allegations of dangerous driving, one of driving while unfit through drink or drugs, one of failing to provide a specimen of breath to police, two of driving without an appropriate licence, two of driving without insurance, and two of failing to stop when required to do so by police.

Further charges allege that Mr Ferguson behaved in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person fear or alarm, and that he breached a condition of a bail order.

A final charge accuses him of being in possession of counterfeit currency.

Mr Ferguson made no plea in respect of any of the charges, and was remanded in custody pending a further court appearance at a later date.
