The sale of a former bank building in Cumnock has fallen through, according to East Ayrshire Council.

The Glaisnock Street building that was formerly home to the town's Royal Bank of Scotland branch was put up for sale by the local authority in May.

A decision was made to put the building on the market in May 2023, to guard against any further expenditure on the property.

The property had been listed with a valuation in excess of £75,000.

Money was ploughed into the building to fix the deteriorating roof, with council bosses hoping that building would have been occupied, had it not been for issues brought on by the pandemic.

Council officials said that the building was "under offer" last July, with it remaining so until at least October.

Although it was hoped that a buyer would soon be found for the building, it appears as though that outcome may not be reached soon.

The building is due to be put back on the market for sale.

An East Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: "East Ayrshire Council can confirm that the offer received for the former Royal Bank of Scotland building has fallen through.

"The council is putting the property back on the market.
