A major road in and out of Mauchline is set to be closed off this weekend.

Ayr Road will be shut off to allow work to take place on the railway bridge on the edge of the town.

A section of the road on the west side of the town is set to be shut off for around 250 metres close to the railway bridge.

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance, which deals with roads issues on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, will close the road from 11pm on Saturday, February 24.

It's hoped that work will be completed within a day, but a closure could be in place until 6am on Monday, February 26.

A 12-mile diversion will be in place throughout the work, via B743 Ayr Road, B730 Montgomerie Street, B744, A76 Kilmarnock Road, B743 Loudoun Street and vice versa.

Access for residents and deliveries out with the working zone will be maintained via diversion route.
