Dalmellington Care Centre is looking to make a 100th birthday for one of its residents extra special this year.

Sadie Begg, originally from Auchinleck and described as a "wee gem", is due to mark the special milestone on March 15.

To make sure this isn't just another birthday, staff at the Dalmellington centre have put out a plea for as many people as possible to send a birthday card to Sadie.

The centre said that Sadie did not want to make a big fuss of her birthday, but staff weren't prepared to accept that answer.

They are aiming to see how far and wide they can make Sadie's birthday reach.

Rae Murphy, General Manager at Dalmellington Care Centre said: "Sadie is a wee gem.

"She has born in Darnconner, Auchinleck and she was last of a family of six.

"She married and moved to Logan and has one son, Tom, and two grandsons but lots of extended family from grandchildren to great, great, great, nieces and nephews.

"She worked in Falmers in Cumnock and other jobs post war."

Sadie has also revealed her secret to reaching the young age of 100.

Rae added: "The secret in getting to 100 is eating porridge and scotch broth with boiling beef. She has never abused her body and worked hard all her life.

"She has been very happy since she came to live in Dalmellington Care Centre and Tom her son can’t thank us enough for how well she is looked after."

"She loves all the staff but especially Kimberley.

"We are pushing the boat out so it would be great if you have a spare five minutes to send her a wee card.

"It would be great to see how far her birthday goes and give her the best birthday she will never forget."

Anyone wishing to send Sadie a card for her special day can address it to Dalmellington Care Centre, 9 Waterside Street, Dalmellington. KA6 7SW.
