A much-loved family-run business in Sanuqhar is set to close at the end of the month.

The Burnside Tearoom on Glasgow Road, on the north-western edge of the village, has served as a cosy café for locals as well as many drivers passing through the area over the years.

Owners say that the decision to close at the end of this month has been made with a "heavy heart" and have blamed the "current economic climate".

The adjoining petrol station will continue to run as normal.

A Burnside Tearoom spokesperson said: "It is with a heavy heart that we announce Burnside Tearoom will close at the end of the month.

"We have loved every minute of running the tearoom over the last ten years and have made some wonderful friends along the way.

"Unfortunately the current economic climate is very different and it is not possible to run at a loss and sustain a family.

"We wish every independent eatery in Sanquhar ‘a' the best’."

The tearoom will close for the final time on Thursday, February 29.
