Plans have been lodged to demolish an historic New Cumnock cottage and build a new home in its place.

Submissions were sent to East Ayrshire Council from Robert Jack on behalf of Rony Lee to tear down the Afton Cottage across from New Cumnock train station.

It's proposed that a new five-bedroom, two-story house be built in its place.

The cottage is said to date back hundreds of years, but has been empty for a number of years having been listed for sale in 2023.

In its heyday, the building had seven bedrooms.

New proposals include three bathrooms, a kitchen/dining area, a utility room and a living room.

A separate garage space would also be built, if plans are approved, as well as space for two more parking spaces.

An initial determination deadline for the plans has been set for April 2024 for council bosses.
