A group dedicated to preserving the history of Mauchline is seeking public feedback on potential improvement for the town.

Mauchline Conservation and Regeneration Scheme (CARS) is a heritage-led regeneration scheme for the town which is now set to run until 2026.

Initially, the scheme was due to be formally launched in 2019 and completed by 2024, but covid meant that the timeline was pushed back.

The scheme is funded by Historic Environment Scotland and East Ayrshire Council and will provide property owners, within the Mauchline Conservation Area, with the opportunity to apply for grant funding for building repairs, re-instatement of architectural detail and shop front improvements.

Now the CARS team is looking for community feedback on its "public realm", which includes plans for town upgrades.

These upgrades include:

  • Burns House Museum Courtyard,
  • Loudoun Street visitor carpark
  • The Cross
  • Poosie Nansies
  • Rear of Abbot Hunter's Tower
  • Churchyard boundary wall

A Mauchline CARS spokesperson said: "We have recently been working with our Conservation Accredited Architects at Wylie Shanks to produce a catalogue of potential draft Public Realm Improvement Projects.

"Following discussions with our Mauchline CARS Steering Group we would like to hear from the whole community including our community groups on your thoughts for our proposals.

"It is vital that we hear your views on these types of improvements as we want to be sure that our community's voice is heard and where possible actioned.

"Our community lies at the heart of Mauchline Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS), we are a community-led regeneration project after all.

"We look forward to reading your feedback on our proposals, and as always if you would like to discuss anything regarding Mauchline CARS. Please do not hesitate to contact us."
