Speed-calming measures are set to be installed on a Muirkirk street following months of planning.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA), on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, intends to install five new speed bumps in the village's Glasgow Road.

The council has been looking into the possibility of these measures for a number of months.

It is understood the plans will see the speed bumps installed along the road, from its junction with the A70 Main Street up towards Muirkirk Cemetery.

Street lighting, signage upgrades and refreshing of road marking will also be carried out.

Six new street lights are also believed to be getting installed along the road.

Work to carry out these changes is set to last for two weeks, with temporary traffic lights set up along Glasgow Road for the duration of the works.

The works are expected to begin on Friday, January 19 and last until Friday, February 2.

Work is dependent on the weather and timings may be subject to change.
