Mauchline drivers are set to be faced with an official 20-mile diversion for a one-day road closure later this month.
Barskimming Road is set to be closed at its junction with Station Road, restricting traffic in both directions.
Scottish Water work is set to be carried out on the road on Friday, January 19.
The road is set to be closed from 9.30am on January 19, until 6pm on the same day.
A notice on the Ayrshire Roads Alliance website, which manages the area's non-trunk roads on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, says that days and times of the works may be dependent upon the weather conditions, but that the closure order will be implemented only when the appropriate signs are displayed.
An official diversion has been put in place which will send drivers along the Barskimming Road towards Stair, onto the B730 for Coalhall, then along the A70 to Cumnock, towards the A76 towards Auchinleck and then on to Mauchline, and vice versa.
