Here's the second instalment of our look back at the big events of 2023 in Cumnock, the Doon Valley and Upper Nithsdale - as seen through the pictures we've published in the Chronicle, online and in print, over the past 12 months.
And this time anyone looking for a little bit of sunshine to brighten their day need look no further than here - because part 2 of our 'review of the year' looks back at the months of May, June, July and August.
Whose faces do you recognise in our selection of photos from those brighter summer days?
New Cumnock Primary school celebrated World of Work Week with a variety of visitors and activities in May. Among the activities was a presentation to P4-7 pupils from Steve Johnson, from the British Red Cross, who spoke about the power of volunteering and how it can benefit their future employability (Image: East Ayrshire Council)
The flagship day in Mauchline’s calendar was another huge success, according to the day’s organisers. Thousands of people from around Ayrshire and beyond stopped in at the popular annual Holy Fair fun day at the end of May, with Jan Walker, in period costume, among those helping the public make the most of the occasion. Cumnock Juniors boss Brian McGinty holds aloft the Scottish Junior Cup after the Townhead Park side won the famous old trophy for only the third time in their history. Findlay Frye's injury-time winner secured victory over Rutherglen Glencairn at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld, to the delight of a large and loud Nock support. McGinty himself announced his resignation as manager just days later, citing health reasons. (Image: Charlie Gilmour)
The Crawick Multiverse near Sanquhar marked the longest day of the year with not just a day but a full week of events. The Multiverse teamed up with the Open University for seven days of summer solstice events - with the centrepiece being an early morning rise to watch the sun come up on the longest day itself, June 21. We caught up with an Ayrshire fitness fanatic ahead of a mammoth charity challenge. Martin Boyle spoke to us about his plans to swim for 10km in Loch Doon and then to run 65km along the entire length of the River Ayr, from Glenbuck to the sea - all in a single day. Martin's epic effort was in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice charity. (Image: Martin Boyle)
Sanquhar's historic Riding of the Marches featured a packed week of events in August. More than 120 horses took to the streets along with members of the Upper Nithsdale Youth Pipe Band, the Sanquhar Silver Band, Bay Beat Carnival Band and more, while hundreds of people lined the streets to see the crowning of the Sanquhar Queen, Ellie Ruddle.
