Auchinleck bowler Carrie McLean was crowned world champion in Glasgow in December 2013. The 15-year-old stunned the world of bowls when she beat defending champ Amy Stanton - 10 years her senior - to become the youngest-ever winner of the under-25 crown in a nail-biting tie-break.

Pupils at Doon Academy showed their creative side with a fantastic array of art in the school’s annual exhibition in late 2013. The collection at the Doon Valley Museum showcased student work in photography, still life and design.

Cumnock’s Baird Institute was a hive of activity as schoolchildren took over the running of the historic building for the day in December 2013. Greenmill Primary’s P6/7 youngsters divided into five teams to run the museum for one day only. Pictured are Cieron Bell, Paul Smith and Andrew Milligan.

East Ayrshire Council’s Community Safety team and Police Scotland joined forces to launch a Safer Streets Initiative in Cumnock in December 2013.

The Hillside Annual Party took place in Muirkirk IFE Wing in December 2013. As well as having pupils from Hillside, a few attended from the special needs school at the former nursery school in Muirkirk.

Mary Dornan and Frances Walker cut the anniversary cake as New Cumnock Parish Guild celebrated its 75th anniversary in December 2013.
