Cumnock: Netherthird Holmburn Road lights displays

Alex and Jackie Weir have been wowing people with their wonderful Holmburn Road display for the best part of two decades.

Every year the Weirs give their home a complete Christmas makeover.

The selfless pair put on the fabulous display and collect donation to go towards a worth group or charity in the area.

Over the years their efforts, as well as lighting up Holmburn Road with a special festive sparkle, have raised thousands of pounds for charities, with the East Ayrshire Community Hospital, Cumnock Age Concern and Netherthird Early Childcare Centre among the community groups to have benefited from the generosity of those who have visited to enjoy the shows.

This year's recipients will be Netherthird Primary, with the funds raised to be used purchase some new equipment for the school.

Another huge crown gathered to see the lights switched on, on Friday evening, as they got to see Santa, Mrs Claus and even The Grinch.

The lights will stay switched on until January, when the Weirs will then donate their cash to the recipients in Netherthird.

Those attending the switch-on had another amazing night.

One person said: "It's amazing that they've been doing this for so long.

"It's brilliant for the kids to be able to come up and see the lights whenever they want and it's so selfless of them to raise money for the good causes.

"To have been doing this for as long as they have is incredible."

Holmburn Road is a hotspot for wonderful displays, as just around the corner, the Montgomery family also have a spectacuar display, as youngsters can post a letter to Santa and enjoy the Candy Cane Lane.

The Grinch is set o make an appearance on Saturday, December 9, as the lights are on display from 5-10pm each day.
