Muirkirk Bowling Club has become the latest beneficiary of East Ayrshire Council's life-saving defibrillator initiative.

Donated to the club by HLS McConnell, the latest defib is the second in the village - adding to one that was donated to Muirkirk Juniors Supporters' Club last year.

The initiative, devised by East Ayrshire Council’s health and safety service and procurement team, encourages local contractors to donate life-saving equipment for distribution within the communities where they are undertaking work.

Other areas including Cumnock, New Cumnock, Auchinleck and Ochiltree have also benefitted from the scheme.

Bowling club president Jim McNee and treasurer Philip Mackin were joined by Ballochmyle ward councillors Alyson Simmons, Linda Holland and Claire Leitch, Cumnock and New Cumnock councillor Jim McMahon, and HLS McConnell's community benefit co-ordinator Iris Trearty at the handover.

Applications are welcomed from any community groups and clubs based in East Ayrshire who would like to benefit from this equipment.

Further details on how the initiative works and how to apply can be found on the East Ayrshire Council website - where there's also a full list of locations of current defibrillators in East Ayrshire, how to register your defibrillator, and information on how to use and maintain the equipment.
