A parole hearing for the killer of a Drongan teen has been deferred, according to a family campaign group.

Michelle Stewart was stabbed 10 times by John Wilson outside a Drongan shop back in 2008, when she was just 17.

Wilson is understood to have appeared before the Scottish Parole Board on Monday, November 27 - 15 years on from the attack.

Wilson was handed a life sentence and told he would have to serve 12 years behind bars before being considered for parole.

Since her killer's conviction in 2009, Michelle's family have been tirelessly campaigning for what they call 'Michelle's Law', which seeks to put the welfare of victims and their families central in any decision on parole and early release.

Wilson was last denied parole in March of this year, when the Scottish Parole Board decided that he remained a "substantial risk" to other members of the public.

Wilson, who also uses the name Sanken, had been denied parole for a third time earlier this year, but he was due to request a review in eight months.

Now, according to the Michelle's Law campaign group, he killer's parole hearing will be pushed back.

A representative said: "The parole board has failed to reach a decision today and have deferred a decision until a later date. This is likely to be either mid December or in the New Year.

"There is obviously a level of doubt about releasing him and if that's the case he should NOT be released.

"We continue to maintain he is a risk especially to women.

"The good news. He remains in prison meantime."

Michelle's family have spoken regularly of their fears that Stewart could be released and moved back to Ayrshire.

The family have always maintained that sharing Michelle's killer's image as much as possible will give them the best chance of him being located outside of Ayrshire.
