FIREFIGHTERS have confirmed they attended a SECOND house fire in Auchinleck during a weekend of disorder in the village.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) previously confirmed that crews were called to a report of a blaze at a house in Heathfield Road on Saturday night.

The 999 service has now told the Chronicle that firefighters were called to a second house fire in the village - this one in the early hours of Monday, in nearby Old Avenue.

It's believed that this fire was linked to the previous blaze, which happened at around 7.20pm on November 25, and to the "large scale disorder" which saw more than a dozen police vehicles called to the town and officers with riot shields taking to the streets.

There were no casualties in either blaze, according to the SFRS.

Confirming the early morning fire, a SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 12.14am on Monday, November 27 to reports of a fire within a property in Auchinleck, East Ayrshire.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the town's Old Avenue, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

"There were no casualties."
