A CHARITY champion has put on another successful evening in aid of an Ayrshire cancer charity.

Sharon King, an ambassador for Ayrshire Cancer Support, has held numerous events to support the work of the charity.

Last weekend was no different as Sharon was the brains behind another wonderful night in Sanquhar, with local band By_Proxy performing for free.

The evening raised more than £1,000, which will be split between Ayrshire Cancer Support and the MacMillan Support Centre at Dumfries and Galloway infirmary.

Delighted at how the night went, Sharon said: "The local band By_Proxy played free and we supplied pies and peas at the interval.

"So far I have raised more than £1,000 and will be halving the proceeds.

"There were about 70 people there. I organised it a few months ago and The Nithsdale Huts gave me the hall free and helped on the night.

"It was an absolutely brilliant night. If you go onto the By_ Proxy Facebook you will see their comments.

"My friend had also donated executive Manchester United tickets for the raffle which attracted a lot of interest."

Not set on focusing on this event's success, Sharon is already planning what comes next.

Cumnock Chronicle:

She added: "I have already planned my Burns Supper again for March 24 and have confirmed the speakers and Louise Marshall who is the Provost's piper.

"As corporate ambassador for Ayrshire Cancer Support I have held various events over the past few years raising about £10,000 for the charity.

"I really enjoy knowing I am helping make a difference.

"I was overwhelmed with the support I received on Saturday and the other events I have held.

"Most local families have been affected at some time in their lives with this disease and are so happy to help support me and the charity."
