People and businesses celebrating their 75th birthday this year have had the chance to party in style as part of a celebration for The King's birthday.

His Majesty The King will today attend a birthday party at Highgrove Gardens in Gloucestershire hosted by The King’s Foundation on Monday afternoon.

A similar community-led event also took place at the charity’s headquarters at Dumfries House, with a many locals in attendance.

The celebratory events are being held for individuals and organisations also turning 75 in 2023, with members of the public nominated by friends, family and neighbours to attend as a reward for contributions to their local communities.

Celebrations also provided an opportunity to socialise and find companionship.

The events will also mark other 75th anniversaries taking place this year, including Windrush 75 and the NHS’s 75th anniversary.

The initiative has been inspired by the monthly tea dances run by The King’s Foundation at Dumfries House, which are part of the charity’s health and wellbeing programme to help combat loneliness and social isolation in the local area.

A local choir sang Happy Birthday for the head of state at the end of the cream tea party at Highgrove, before The King cut into his three-tier Victoria sponge cake.

Speaking about the Dumfries House celebrations, Simon Sadinsky, executive director, The King's Foundation said: "We're here at Dumfries House celebrating The King's 75th birthday, which, for us, is a really special opportunity to bring together a range of member from across the community who have been nominated to attend and share a birthday.

"One of the reasons it's so special is that the community has played such a vital part of the history of this organisation and particularly its involvement in Dumfries House.

"Everyone has a relationship with this place and I think having an opportunity to celebrate the big birthday with the community has been such a wonderful moment for us all."

Simon added: "This event really stems from events that we've run over a number of years now.

"The use of the estate as this community asset is such an important part of the history and I think being able to have this event to celebrate the 75th birthday and bringing the community to be a part of that is just another example of how The King's Foundation has been able to achieve that at Dumfries House."
