Community groups gathered in Cumnock last week to discuss topics such as funding, event planning and community led regeneration.

The Communities Conference takes place annually to bring together, celebrate and inform representatives from East Ayrshire’s active community groups including Community Councils, Community Asset Transfer Groups, Larders and Resilience Groups, Community Associations and other locally-led community organisations.

This year the conference took place at CAMPS Barrhill Centre and was opened by Councillor Drew Filson, Cabinet Member for Localities and Community Wealth Building.

Cumnock Chronicle:

The day featured presentations from Eddie Fraser, Chief Executive of East Ayrshire Council, who spoke about the upcoming launch of a series of community consultation events, and Suzanne Clark, Vibrant Communities Service Manager, who celebrated ten years of Vibrant Communities by showing some highlights from the past decade.

Kevin Wells, Strategic Lead for Communities, also hosted a community conversation Q&A with community representatives.

Other workshops were provided by Cleaner Communities, Vibrant Communities (Wellbeing) and the NEST Wellbeing Group, while the entertainment was courtesy of CAMPS.

Councillor Filson said: “Thanks to all of our community representatives who came along and took part so actively in the discussions on the day.

"This conference is always an important one for really finding out about all the excellent work going on in our communities, and discussing how we can continue to work together to keep up this good progress in the future.”
