The weekend's Cumnock Tryst has been hailed as "truly special", from the man behind the festival.

Hundreds turned out over the four days as the ever-popular event returned for its ninth instalment from October 5-8.

Cumnock Chronicle:

Four days were filled with celebrating music and wonderful performance, as crowds gathered to enjoy the excellent shows.

Thursday kicked off with a star name, as soprano Danielle de Niese wowed the crowds to get the festival up and running.

Cumnock Chronicle:

Friday saw pupils from the Supported Learning Centre of Robert Burns Academy put on their 'The Way We Are' show.

That was followed by 'The Cumnock Hour', Tenebrae and Findlay Napier performing to round off a wonderful Friday of events.

Cumnock Chronicle:

The bulk of the celebration took place on BIG Saturday, including three years of hard work by community groups across the area coming to fruition, with 'A Musical Celebration of the Coalfields' forming the backbone of Saturday's events.

Cumnock Chronicle:

There were also performances of new music from Strings N Things, Things Tae Dae, Doon Academy Dalmellington, Robert Burns Academy Cumnock, Logan Primary School, Netherthird Primary School, The Cumnock Tryst Festival Chorus, Cumnock Youth Musical Theatre, Cumnock Area Musical Production Society and Dalmellington Brass Academy.

Cumnock Chronicle:

Saturday evening saw the return of the festival ceilidh to finish off a great day.

Not finished there, the festival ended on Sunday with festival mass at St John's Church, as well as the festival promenade concert at Dumfries House.

Cumnock Chronicle:

This was all before the Gloria Festival Finale on Sunday evening at 7.30pm in the Barony Hall.

Sir James MacMillan, founder and artistic director of The Cumnock Tryst, said this year's event was another success, with planning already started for next October.

Cumnock Chronicle:

He said: “This 9th Cumnock Tryst has been something truly special.

"Despite everything the weather threw at us, so many local people and families turned up to share in some wonderful performances.

Cumnock Chronicle:

"From our visiting artists such as Danielle de Niese and Tenebrae to our own composers and performers taking part in the big culmination of A Musical Celebration of the Coalfields and The Way We Are at the Barony Hall.

"So many people have come up to us over the last four days to share the joy that these moments brought and we feel very fortunate to be able to bring the benefits of music making to Cumnock and East Ayrshire.

Cumnock Chronicle:

"Next year marks our 10th Cumnock Tryst, for which planning is already well underway. We hope to see you all there.”
