Ayrshire football clubs have come together to pay their respects following the sad death of a youngster.

Girvan Football Club posted that their under-20s development player, Robbie Meiklem recently passed away at Ayr Hospital.

Also a former youth team player at Auchinleck Talbot, the tribute to Robbie from Girvan FC said: " It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of our Under 20s Development team player Robbie Meiklem, who passed away earlier this week at Ayr Hospital.

"In respect of Robbie both the Girvan Development team and First Team games this weekend have been cancelled.

"Also all Development and First team matches across the West of Scotland Leagues this weekend will hold a one minute silence in memory of Robbie."

A number of other teams will hold a minute's silence before their matches this weekend as well.

Former team, Auchinleck Talbot also posted their own tribute, while sharing a strong mental health message, mentioning men's mental charity, Release Ayrshire, in their post.

They said: "It’s with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of former youth player, Robbie Meiklem.

"As a mark of respect, we will hold a minute's silence before our games this weekend.

"Never be afraid to reach out - Release.

"Rest in peace, Robbie".

A viral post believed to be relating to Robbie's death also spoke about the importance of speaking about mental health issues around youngsters.

Incredibly, the post also said that Robbie's organs had been donated, saving the lives of six other people across the UK.

Glenafton Athletic also shared their own tribute, adding: "Everyone at Glenafton Athletic Official would like to send their thoughts and condolences to Robbie's family and friends at this time.

"And remind everyone that it is okay to not be okay and please reach out to someone if needed."

Cumnock Chronicle: A message was shared by Girvan Football Club.

Kilwinning Rangers added: "Everyone at Kilwinning Rangers is extremely saddened to hear of the passing of young Robbie Meiklem.

"The 2004 players in our team were used to coming up against Robbie throughout their youth football journey when he was with Coylton and other top teams as well as us having several current players who were team-mates over the years.

"A tragic loss of a young life. Sincere condolences to Robbie’s family and friends and to all that played with him."
