Road closures along the A70 near Muirkirk are set to end this evening, according to South Lanarkshire Council.

Drivers will be glad to learn that a closure in place since Monday, between Glenbuck and Douglas, is set to end today, September 22, weather-permitting.

A near 35-mile diversion had been in place for anyone driving through Muirkirk towards Douglas.

The road has been closed between Monksfoot near Glespin and East Ayrshire boundary since Monday, September 18 at 8am.

Drivers had been diverted via B743 Muirkirk to Strathaven, A71 Strathaven to B7078 Canderside, B7078 Canderside to A70 Millbank and A70 via Douglas.

South Lanarkshire Council says that the road should be fully open once again from 6pm tonight (Friday, September 22).
